CMD-16M, 8.8cm Pak 43/41 gun tube in 1/35-scale resin and turned aluminum for DML Nashorn/Hornisse

by Frank De Sisto

New products from CMD are always cause for celebration amongst the more discerning modeler, and this accessory, although rather mundane at first glance, is surely up to the standards we have come to expect from Bill Miley’s shop.

What CMD has done is provide a fully detailed and visually very accurate rendition of the Pak 43/41 gun tube as used on the Panzerjager Nashorn/Hornisse, as kitted by DML. The main portion of the gun tube is in cleanly turned aluminum, while the sleeve, which connected the sectional gun tube on the prototype, is in resin. This is so that all of the tiniest details could be accurately rendered, and so that particular area of the tube could be more easily attached to the parent kit.

The modeler must cut the breech and muzzle break from the DML kit parts, in order to fit them to the CMD gun tube. Absolutely clear instructions, consisting of text and illustrations will considerably ease this already simple operation. There are also some photos of the Aberdeen museum’s Nashorn, showing its gun tube to great advantage, especially in regards to the areas that modelers will need to see in order to use this accessory.

Altogether, especially when one considers the price ($10 USD), this is a high-quality item that is sure to please fans of both the DML kit and CMD.

Highly recommended.
