Eduard Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf.C (35815)

by Frank De Sisto

1/35-scale photo-etched brass for the AFV Club kit. Price: $24.95 USD.

Eduard’s latest set provides details for the base version of the Ausf.C as produced by AFV Club. The two frets provide the usual things such as tool clamps, head-and tail-lamp mounts and details, mud flaps, lifting hooks, MG shield and stowage locker details for the exterior.

The bulk of the Eduard set contains parts for the interior. Starting with the cockpit, there is a new instrument panel that features a full-color printed piece of paper with the dial faces. The rest of the cockpit receives foot pedals, extra parts to detail the instrument panel and floor area. The various fittings in that area receive brackets and clamps, radio mounts, spare vision block holders and internal details for the kit-provided vision blocks. Racks are provided for the K98 rifles, MP40 machine-pistol and MG42 machine-guns, fire extinguisher, MG34 “drum” ammo cans and MP40 ammo pouches. Hinge details for the internal storage lockers, internal equipment tie-down rod brackets, and, finally frames for the canvas tarp complete the set.

Typical for this type of etched detail set, from this manufacturer, it does not contain any overly-complex items, making it ideal for a first-time user of etched brass, while veterans will appreciate the comprehensive, yet concise approach.

Recommended.
