Plus Model 103 Skoda Typ 952 Kubelwagen

Andrew Dextras

This release from Plus Model represents the fairly common (1500 produced) Skoda Superb 3000 Type 952 Kubelwagen.  The kit consists of 83 cleanly cast resin parts, a large sheet of photo etch, vacuformed roof, clear plastic headlights and a sheet of decals.

Although a matter of taste, I think this is one of the nicest looking softskin vehicles of WWII.  Assembly begins with the suspension and undercarriage.  Detail is excellent.  The complete body is cast as one part and the undercarriage is inserted from underneath, this minimises the possibility of warpage and fit issues if the body sides were cast separately.

Interior detail is very nice, the seats are particularly well done, as is the folded canvas top.  The kit also gives you the option of a fully raised 2 piece roof, this being supplied as vacuformed parts. The front grille is photoetch as in many of PM's models and is much more realistic than anything a resin casting could achieve.

Decals are provided for 2 marking schemes, one being dark gray, the other being 3 a colour yellow/green/brown scheme.

In summary, fans of softskin vehicles will fall in love with this little ripper of a kit, highly recommended to anyone wanting to build a highly detailed replica of this attractive vehicle.

As seems to be regular practice from Plus Models, they have thoughtfully included some scale plans and wartime images (including interior and engine detail images) HERE
