Osprey Order of Battle #8 The Ardennes Offensive, V Panzer Armee

Osprey Order of Battle #9 The Ardennes Offensive, US VII & VIII Corps and British XXX Corps

Order of Battle 9, The Ardennes Offensive, US VII & VIII Corps and British XXX Corps, by Bruce Quarrie.  Osprey Military, ISBN 1-85532-858-5.   Price £12.99/US$21.95.

Like the others in the series this is an essential book for anyone trying to disentangle the fighting in the Battle of the Bulge.  It describes the US and British units involved on the Central Sector down to regimental level with complete orders of battle and then goes on to detail their involvement in the fighting.  The individual battlefield maps are accompanied, like the others in the series, by a fold-out sector map which lets the reader "place" each part of the fighting.  The photographs are again chosen to give the feel of the area rather than showing details of tanks or uniforms which can be found in books from Osprey and other publishers, and do their job very well.

I can only repeat my comment on OOB9: Recommended to anyone who wants to model the Bulge fighting and get his/her unit identifications and locations correct instead of just guessing.

This third in the OOB series about the Battle of the Bulge covers German actions in the Central Sector from Armee level down to individual regiments.  As before, the units making up each Korps are described, complete orders of battle are given, and even the gun types of each artillery battalion are listed.  Combat action descriptions are accompanied by individual battle maps showing what was going on very clearly. The photographs are well-chosen for atmosphere, though not all are from the Bulge itself and some captions are a bit lacking in identification.  One which is good identifies a Puma of Kampfgruppe Boehm, 2 Pz Div,  north of Bastogne though alas no markings are visible and stowage hides any camouflage pattern.

Recommended to anyone who wants to model the Bulge fighting and get his/her unit identifications and locations correct instead of just guessing.
