Saldin Mk.2

Dragon Black Label, 1/35 scale
by Brett Green

Description

Here is my Dragon Black Label Kit No. 3554 - British Armoured Car Saladin Mk.2.

I finished this as the vehicle used for tropical trials in northern Australia during 1960/61.

Based on contemporary movies and photos, I added covers for the gun barrel and the smoke dispensers plus a couple of stowage items from Kneadatite two-part epoxy putty, replaced the aerials, added detail to the completely blank hatch interiors using plastic strip and sheet, in addition to one resin pack from Value Gear.

I have also fitted a .30 cal and mount to the turret.

The model was painted using my Testor Aztek airbrush fitted with the tan-coloured fine tip.

I had to dig deep in the decals drawer for the custom markings, and I also did a bit of custom painting.

The crew figures are from Firestorm and Callsign Models (another Firestorm brand) ranges. I was delighted with their high level of detail and quality sculpting.

I found this to be an enjoyable project with perfect fit and not too many errors in the instructions.

I have written this one up for a big article in Issue 109 of Model Military International magazine.

MMI is now also available as a digital magazine that you may read on your PC or Mac home computer. This means it is less expensive, and that the issues are available easily on day of publication the World over.
