FirstLook

The second MiniArt Fordson and ScaleX wheel review focuses on the MiniArt Fordson Standard N Model 1939 land utility tractor “Orange” combined with the ScaleX Fordson N sagged wheel set WW35004S. The MiniArt kit allows the modeller to build an agricultural tractor as used by the Women’s Land Army (WLA).

The Land Girls, as they were affectionately known, proved critical to Britain’s national food security, particularly in light of Germany’s early success in submarine warfare and Hitler’s attempt to blockade Britain from vital imports. As a result, domestic food production became a strategic necessity, and the WLA, often seen operating their distinctive orange tractors, played a major role in this nationwide agricultural effort.

ScaleX offers not only correctly sagged wheels, but also a specific agricultural wheel set with historically accurate dimensions. The ScaleX sagged wheel set WW35004S provides new wheels comprising outer tyres modelled as Goodyear Super Rib 6.00–19 SL (size 6.00–19) at the front, paired with Dunlop R-1 farm tractor lug tyres (size 11.25–28) at the rear.

The rear wheels feature an increased 28-inch diameter to improve off-road capability and are fitted with tyres offering superior traction, while the front tyres display a sharper tread pattern for better performance on loose soil.

These wheels are widely depicted in period reference photographs of WLA tractors and, when used in conjunction with MiniArt’s excellent Fordson series, allow the modeller to create yet another historically accurate and visually distinctive combination.
