FirstRead
Over the last 30 odd years, Squadron Signal Publications has carved a niche for itself with its “In Action” series. These books are intended to be the inexpensive reference on the subject they cover. I have many of their previously released books in my reference library, and whenever I review their latest editions, I somehow feel like I’m visiting an old friend. This newly released book is one of the hardback editions.
Covering 80 pages with 183 mostly black and white photographs, 7 individual colour profiles, 8 detail drawings and a number of tables outlining production figures and the like.
The book is broken down into most of the variations based on the 38(t) chassis. The first pages offer a brief run down and history of the vehicle. This is then followed by most of the various versions operated by the German armed services during World War II. A photo essay of each version is then included with a brief description of their use.
All the photos are very clear and for the most part very well captioned. I am very impressed with this books presentation and content. In my view it is a good “modellers book” and covers all of the details we want to see. Although it is not a “get down and dirty” full blown reference source, it offers a good all round overview.
This is a concise and affordable offering and a welcome addition to the growing collection of reference material pertaining to the Pz.Kpfw. 38 family of vehicles and comes recommended.
