Wolf SSA PREVIEW

Neverland Hobby, 1/35 scale

PREVIEW

Neverland Hobby is to release a 1/35 scale Wolf SSA:

The "Wolf" SSA is a light armored off-road vehicle in service with the Bundeswehr . Beneath its unassuming civilian-style exterior lies a highly specialized and formidable core. Neverland Hobby's 55001 1/35 "Wolf" SSA assembly model kit faithfully captures the unique appeal of this distinctive German military vehicle.

SSA stands for the German term "Sonder-Schutz-Ausstattung" (Special Protective Equipment). The 4.5-ton Wolf SSA is equipped with armor plating, bullet-resistant glazing, and optional mine protection components, delivering comprehensive 360° protection. Neverland Hobby's model kit accurately replicates these critical features.

The kit allows you to assemble the doors in either open or closed position. You'll also find the armored spall liner on the interior door panels. Notably, the bullet-resistant glazing is fixed (non-retractable), so the doors omit the window regulator mechanism—an authentic detail faithfully reproduced.

The chassis structure of the actual vehicle has a somewhat retro design compared to modern armored vehicles. We have meticulously replicated this feature in our kit, as we believe the intricate chassis construction – with all its visual interest – is a key highlight for any four-wheel-drive off-road military vehicle.

Due to molding technology limitations and plastic material constraints, we had to abandon the fully articulated chassis concept. However, we've preserved as much detail as possible across all chassis components. If you plan to display the chassis, its detail should meet your expectations.

The "Wolf" SSA was extensively deployed by the Bundeswehr for diverse combat operations, requiring specialized equipment not found on standard Wolf vehicles. The Neverland Hobby kit includes multiple external and internal accessories, allowing you to customize a unique model according to your preferences.

To enhance the kit's expressiveness, Neverland Hobby's "Wolf" SSA includes 3D-printed parts and photo-etched components as standard features. But don't be intimidated – this kit isn’t designed exclusively for expert modelers. Our goal is to make the joy of model-building accessible to everyone.

To support this vision, the kit includes beginner-friendly aids like masking stickers and pre-cut mirror foil, while the 3D-printed and photo-etched parts have been optimized for easy assembly.

We have no interest in boasting about extreme precision or perfection. Instead, we’ve focused on creating a kit that brings you genuine modeling enjoyment.

The "Wolf" SSA model kit offers three historically significant paint schemes that add distinctive character and cultural context to your build.

For Bundeswehr enthusiasts, you can recreate the classic NATO three-tone camouflage used by military police units stationed in Hanover - a rare subject in scale modeling since police vehicles seldom appear in kits.

Alternatively, depict its deployment during Operation Enduring Freedom in Kabul with ISAF forces. The vehicle's occasional VIP protection duties suggest possible use by Germany's elite KSK special forces, adding an air of mystery to this configuration.

The most dramatic option represents the UN MINUSMA mission in Gao, Mali - considered the UN's most dangerous peacekeeping operation. Here, Bundeswehr troops fought alongside international forces in brutal conditions to maintain local order. Each scheme reflects a different chapter in this vehicle's remarkable service history.

As an armored vehicle, the "Wolf" SSA may not be large in size, but it certainly doesn't lack for visual interest and detail. Striking the right balance between authentic representation and buildability posed a significant challenge for our design team.

After extensive prototyping and countless refinements, we're confident that the final kit delivers on both fronts - offering rich detail while remaining accessible to modelers of varying skill levels. What you see before you represents our best solution to this complex equation.

The photos above showcase our first test-shot components. The product is currently undergoing final testing phases, with more exciting details to be revealed soon.

We will pass on more details as they come to hand.

Thanks to Neverland Hobby for the information and images.
